On Saturday , October 13th I plan to cycle ~ 100m on the trail .
From Herman to Tebbetts & back .
My bike is a road bike with dropped handle bars , and 25MM road tires .
My question is will these be suitable for the light gravel surface I am expecting .
Also, any suggestions on how the improve my Katy Trail experience , please let me know .
Kind Regards
Joe

From Hermann to Tebbetts and back is about 65 miles but it will feel like more than 100 especially with those tires and the rain we have been experiencing. If you have a cross bike or a mountain bike it would be a much better choice. If the road bike is your only choice Be prepared for flats and having to walk some areas.

The bigger tires the better as you can run lower pressures. I've ridden short distances on the Katy with 700x25 tires and didn't like it. It was bumpy and sometimes felt very squishy. I've ridden the entire Katy Trail 9 times on bikes with 700x32 tires at around 70 psi and it was a much smoother, stable ride. Next year I'm putting 700x35 tires on my touring bike and probably running 60-65 psi. I weigh around 215 lbs so around 260 lbs total with the bike.

as long as it's dry, 25's are completely fine. I've ridden the entire east to west on 25's with no problems. And my wife packed down her road bike for a bikepacking trip last year and rode 25's - https://andrewchasteen.com/stories/katytrail. If it's wet, you'll find sections where you'll bog down a bit.

We stayed here for a girls night Oct. 2018. Kathy was absolutely wonderful. She made us feel at home and was very informative on places to go and eat. The rooms are beautiful, the beds are so comfortable, and the champagne tub was amazing. She has a hot tub outside which we really enjoyed plus a beautiful fireplace. Kathys breakfast was amazing one of the best we ever had. We can't wait to go back and do it again.

-  + Are there any providers to give you a ride back to your trail head? I would like to ride one way and not back track --- any thoughts?

We stayed with Kathy at the Lindenhof B&B in October 2018 while cycling the Katy Trail. We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was fabulous--the best of our trip! Refreshments were offered upon arrival. It was handy to use a sprayer to clean up our bicycles after a messy day’s ride! Our room was very comfortable and spacious as was the common area. Great hospitality---highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed overnight at Kim's cabins in Windsor as part of a riding the Katy Trail. The cabin was immaculate and had all the comforts of home. The thing that made the visit so memorable was Kim. She heard that my wife needed some gloves and drove us to the dollar store and while she was at it she gave us a tour of the Amish Country. Places to eat where within easy walking distance and we really enjoyed our stay in Windsor.

We had a group stay at the Lindenhof B&B in Augusta. Kathy was a wonderful hostess. The breakfast was very hearty and healthy. They have 4 bedrooms which fit our group of 8 perfect, we all agreed we would stay there again. The hot tub was a welcome treat to my sore muscles.
