I did suggested route #2 with Steve K's alteration and was VERY pleased. I did this route to and from the Katy Trail on a weekday morning and a weekend afternoon. Car traffic was minimal and mostly 35mph. Shoulders and/or sidewalks are available for almost the entire route. I only opted for sidewalks in a few tight spots. This is a relatively flat route with a hill or two that are not too bad. Overall, highly recommended. Just map it out. It took me a while to find the street names at first. On google maps, "Marine Road" is Marine Avenue. Direction #1 is at the top northeast corner of the park trail.
