Puzzled why you as a local resident would add to the confusion by titling your post Portage Paddle Camp In Machens. It is located in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri, a distance by trail and road of five miles from Machens. Readers who don’t know by now should understand that Machens is the end of the trail and because it is surrounded by private property it is essentially a dead end trail requiring trail users to turn around and back track to Black Walnut or Ell Road to reach a public road. While it is possible to continue past Machens via private road and a rail crossing it is illegal and has been told to us repeatedly including by Missouri's Department of Natural Resources (Parks) This situation sucks and is unlikely to change as it is the will of that landowner.
