This page does not tell you how to get from Centralia IL to the cross-Missouri route, but Amtrak's website should be able to tell you that (you'll see a link to their site on that page).

Thae Amtrak listed above is excellent. If you reserve ahesd of time they will install hangers in one of the cars so that you can hang your bike and keep your eye on itn Needless to say cannot keep them in the aisle and there is no longer a "baggage car". Thanks to Trail Net in StL.

The other problem, unless they've changed their policy, is that they strictly limit bikes on trains (I'm not sure the number--2 or 4,I think, so that won't work well for a bike club.

Had beautiful weather the first weekend in November and enjoyed a relaxing ride from New Franklin to Hartsburg and then back to Rocheport. Stayed at the Katy Trail B&B in Rocheport and enjoyed the hot tub and the easy access to the trail. The Globe in Hartsburg offered a more communal setting with riders and walkers gathering in the parlor after dinner. Jeanette is great and cooks a great breakfast (especially the zucchini muffins). If you stay there, make sure she shows you photos from the flood...amazing. The Bike Depot is a great resource and we enjoyed test riding some of their recumbants. All in all a great trip. We were excited to see the changes along the trail in the last two years with the addition of the conservation areas. Hopefully the Katy Trail will inspire more regions to adopt these types of trails.

Just made the ride from Sedalia back to Kirkwood and had a great trip. Stayed the first night at the Hartsburg Inn and it was just what we needed. The refrigerator in the room was stocked with juice,water and yogurt. We were able to start another day of riding with a nice breakfast and coffee right there in the room. Our hoste was most gracious and accomodating. We'd recommend this place to all.

As I sit here righting this, it is raining in Mid-Missouri. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for the trail to dry out? This has been a pretty good rain, but it was the first in a while and the sun is expected to be out tomorrow with temps ranging from 41 and up to 60. Any ideas?

The trail drains very well in most places. Memorial Day 2004 I had planned to ride with my niece, but we had severe thunderstorms in the early afternoon. I had given up on the idea of riding and we were just waiting out the storms and tornado warnings at my cousins house until we could head home. The storms past and the sun came out and she still wanted to ride so we hit the trail about 4:30 and rode 9 miles with no problems. You may run through a few soft spots or have to dodge a few puddles, but the plus side is there will be no dust.

Cool! I am actually a walker, but this is the best site I have found on the trail. I am hoping to convince my wife to do the New Franklin to Rocheport section with me tomorrow morning. I KNOW she is going to use the rain as an excuse, so now I have some ammunition for my counter-argument.

There is parking at the trailhead and at the community center across the street that is watched by the police department. It would not hurt to notify them also.

I am planning a trip for next May, where some friends and I will bike the whole trail. We are going to start in Clinton I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to stay in Clinton. me and my 9 y.o g'son (one of six g'sons) rode the katy trail today from defiance to weldon springs and back. even though we did not go very far (6 miles round trip) it was a great day for it, and we had fun. we then stopped off at the katy bike rental in defiance. the owner was fantastic. very courteous, friendly, and helpful. we had some ted drewes ice cream and drinks, then sat at one of the picnic tables in the yard and enjoyed them. if ever in or through defiance, stop off at the katy bike rental. smacks are great and service is fantastic.

Although I wish you well in your venture, I think we all get the point. You have posted here numerous times under every imaginable totally unrelated topic. I'm more interested in seeing what you have other than a pipe dream.
Also, I don't think this comment from your website is a true statement. "Currently those who wish to travel the entire length of the trail will have to make several arrangements with many different businesses for all their needs from shelter, food, and shuttle transportation." There are several organizations who do guided tours the length of the Katy. And, what about the DNR ride every June? One organization. One phone call.
You may be new to starting a business of this type, but please don't insult our intelligence in your efforts to do so. That will only keep me comfortably riding past to an already established place of business.

There is Riverview suites in Boonville. Private suites with washer and dryers, bike rack in the rooms 1 block off the trail. You can actually see the trail from the room and the Missouri River. 660-882-0300.

It is a new B & B. Clean very nice and located behind Cafe Napolils. It is 2 blocks from the trail and the Missouri River Bridge.

Any comments regarding camping at the city park in Hermann this October on a Sunday? A group of us are planning to do this. We were recently were told that because of Octoberfest, it will be very noisy, with a lot of drunks, somewhere we'll enjoy being & that riding across the bridge will be very dangerous. Has anyone out there camped here on a Sunday evening in October?

Octoberfest and Katy Trail bikers do not mix well. The traffic is unmanageable when traveling by bike. The city campground is bare bones and will be filled with drunks and hooligans. The facilities are pretty rustic when not getting much use. I can only imagine what they would be like with hundreds of party goers.
If camping, your best option is at Steamboat Junction in Bluffton. If you want to sample the food and drink at Octoberfest in Hermmann...get a ride from a local and leave the bike at the campgound.

On a Sunday, you'll probably be just fine in the City Park. The Octoberfest partiers are really there on Friday and Saturday nights.
I have also camped at a place just off the trail north of the river; about 5 miles away from Hermann -- much quieter.

Hermann is doing its best to control the problem they've had with drunks... It is much better than it once was however to get there on bike from the trail is VERY dangerous!!!! You'll have to cross a busy narrow bridge... There is a shuttle service whose number is (hopefully still there) on the bullitin board at the Mckittrick trail head... Not cheap, but much safer to get across bridge...

I am feeling pretty bad about what I posted about Rocheport. I feel I need to clarify.
Rocheport and the surrounding area were the most beautiful section of the trail, imho. My
original statement was referring to acitvities and such, not the town or area.
Some poster responded asking what made Oklahoma special. I imagine it would be the
same with Missouri: different parts are nice, others are not.
I like Missouri and particularly the KATY area.
Sorry if it hurt anyone's feelings.

Sad to see yet another business close on Main St.in St. Charles ---- instead of blamimg the gas prices , and the lost of the tourist trade----- why not be more receptive to local business ---- and stay open later than 5:00pm

We stopped in here on Fri. Sept.23. The owner made sure we filled our water bottles before leaving. Doing some upgrades with a deck and new restrooms. If you need something he probably has it, including snacks, drinks, ice cream. Very helpful place and nice to talk with. Can't miss it, a bridge leads right to the back door directly from the trail...Don't pass this one.

Had guests at our B&B on Saturday the 22nd of October, and they had nothing but good things to say about Katy Bike Rental, the service and attention was great, they were not experienced riders so all the help was appreciated ----- just wanted to pass the info along ----- Rhona Lococo --- Lococo House ll,Bed & Breakfast --- just three blocks from the Katy Trail

- + Camped at the Randlemann House last Sunday. Found out that we could buy breakfast from them. It was great because there is no food options close.

It's Rendleman Home and they do serve meals but you need to call ahead so they can prepare.
